Origin

As we often see clinically, one spends a long period of time in agony before walking out of the haze after a trauma.  It is known that Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can fast alleviate the pain for someone in such agony.  It is the founder, Francine Shapiro’s dream to spread this type of psychotherapy throughout the United States and eventually throughout the world.  The purpose of this association is to recruit more healthcare professionals in order to assist more people.

The preparatory team of Taiwan Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing International Association (TEMDRA) held its pre-preparation meeting on November 12, 2006 and completed its application process for association establishment through the Internal Affairs of Taiwan on February 5, 2007.  The first preparation meeting was held on April 22, 2007, and several issues, such as the draft regulations and membership qualifications were discussed during the meeting.  Members of the association were openly recruited through newspapers.  The preparatory team had its second meeting on May 27, 2007; member roster and formation of the association were discussed.  The first meeting for members was held on June 24, 2007.  Annual project and budget plans were discussed during the first meeting and the council members were elected.  Dr. Pei-Li Wu was elected as the first President of TEMDRA.

On June 24, 2007, through the Internal Affairs of Taiwan, TEMDRA became officially registered as a national and local association.  It is with Miss Mei-Xiu Chen’s capability and high efficiency that this association can be established successfully.
